You’ve done the hard work of setting up a site shop, and you’re ready to make some sales. Or maybe you’re debating opening an online store, but not sure if you’ll see any revenue. There are a lot of huge perks to selling on your own site, from more flexibility to increased profit. But that can’t happen unless you’re consistently marketing your online store.
Many of my clients sell their products on TPT, and they’re looking for more flexibility and options for their customers. The answer? Selling through their site. When you’re running the show, you’re not boxed in by marketplace rules or fighting algorithms. But, you do need to focus on marketing your online store in order to bring in traffic and revenue. Here are a few tips that can help –
When you sell on TPT, you’re stuck with their coupons and sales schedule, for the most part. I remember going to a TPT Forward conference nine years ago and being told they were introducing personalized coupons. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened. 🙃
With your site shop, you have a lot more flexibility. You can create your own coupons to incentivize new customers. You can send coupons to existing customers, asking them to come back for more. You can even create loyalty programs, which reward repeat buyers.
Marketing an online store doesn’t have to be hard! With an abandoned cart sequence, you can automatically retarget warm buyers, which can boost your sales. You’ve probably received an abandoned cart sequence before. You get an email from Amazon that says, “Did you forget this?” after leaving something in your cart, or a coupon from GAP that incentivizes you to complete your purchase.
There’s a high chance that you want to read reviews before you buy something online. Reviews and testimonials validate that the product is what you’re looking for and that you’re not getting scammed. I recommend that you send automated follow-ups after a purchase to gather social proof. Add these testimonials to your shop to build trust and help buyers make decisions. This is one of those key elements to marketing an online store in 2025 that a lot of business owners miss out on.
Unlike marketplaces like TPT and Etsy, you can build your list and further market your online store when you sell on your website. When someone makes a purchase or signs up for a coupon, add them to your email list – with their consent, of course. (Or, for bonus points, send them through a welcome sequence.) Now, you have the chance to further build brand awareness, continue nurturing them, and promote additional products. This is how you keep customers coming back for more. 🙌🏻
One thing to note is that if you use Flodesk, it may not integrate with some online shops, like WooCommerce. However additional apps like Peeby and Zapier may be able to help!
There are tons of opportunities for marketing an online store. You can link your store in your email signature. Promote your products and store in blog posts. Share products on social media. Utilize pop-ups and banners to promote your store, a special coupon, or best-sellers. Think outside the box with the platforms you already have. No need to reinvent the wheel.
