8 Things I Do Everyday to Start My Workday

Business

Over the years, I've worked really hard on creating a system or order of events that works best for to start my workday. This helps me setup for success and helps me ease into the day versus just jumping right in to tasks.

I don’t know about you, but I love seeing how people start their workday. You can always learn something from someone, even it’s a tiny tip! Over the years, I’ve worked really hard on creating a system or order of events that works best for to start my workday. This helps me setup for success and helps me ease into the day versus just jumping right in to tasks. šŸš¶šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ’Ø

Wanna still my routine? Pin it to Save!

Now this is different from a morning routine (as I view that as more personal), but more a ritual to get my business started for the day. It’s really helped me slow down my start and get more focused because I don’t have other things (like my inbox) looming to distract me from my goals for the day.

So here is what I personally do to jumpstart the day:

1. Brain dump

I use notion to have a running brain dump / master to do list organized by personal and work. I also have composition books all over the house ( this is new) with a pen attached in case I randomly think of something as well to cover my bases. I’ve used the Notes app as well to keep track of random thoughts as well but composing a full list on Notion has been the best for me so far!

2. Check my budget

Every single day I check my bank and go through my budget (I created a doc on Google Sheets such a long time ago to do this). This is something I look forward to do and keeps me on track with my money goals. This has really helped change my mindset with money and how it is used within our household. I highly recommend everyone do this! And even better, it saves you time when tax season comes around if you already have your books in order and ready to go.

3. Review my focus tasks

At the end of each workday I fill out my planner for the next day, and this includes my 3 major focuses for the upcoming day. This helps me know what is a priority! I put any other remaining tasks on a list below that and if I end up having time, I will try to tackle those next. But having the 3 main ones helps me be satisfied if I am only able to check those off.

4. Check my calendar + schedule

I switched over to using ical this year because I can organize it better but I still have things that link to google calendar. So every day I just check to make sure everything is matching and aligned.

5. Organize my inboxes into categories

My gmail is organized to have separate inbox folders so every day I quickly sort out the things I need to respond to, check into, work on, or check out another day. Here is a blog post from back in the day on how to setup your inbox into multiple categories.

6. Do any quick tasks

Quick tasks are something that will take me less than 10 minutes to complete for a client. If it’s more, I put it on my running to do list and add it into my schedule for the week when I can get to it.

7. Check in on social

I always check into instagram in the morning, spending some quality time answering DMs, going through comments, leaving comments, etc. This happens for about 15 minutes every start of my day. This is also around the time that I post on IG. It’s great for engagement to be on around the same time so that’s my goal. I use a timer on my phone to let me know when it’s time to stop and get started on my focus 3.

8. Exit out + start

It’s pretty simply. Close of everything that will distract you, move your phone away, and get to work!

Need a reminder? Save for later!

Now that I shared my routine to start my workday, what do you do every time you get started? Again, I LOVE hearing other people’s routines so drop a comment and let me know!

Hey Alexis! Question for you…what social share-out plug-in do you use? I have heard Social Warfare recommended by a few people, but the ratings are not the greatest. I like the all-black on that you have here on your website. What plug-in is that? Do you like it?
