Grilled Cheese with HillShire Farm Naturals

Raise your hand if you loved grilled cheese as a child? I did... and I still do as a adult! This grown up version is made with sourdough bread, gouda cheese, and tasty Hillshire Farm Naturals ham in the middle! This combo is perfect on it's own or with a side of tomato soup.
Raise your hand if you loved grilled cheese as a child? I did… and I still do as a adult! But the only thing is I’m over is the simplicity of a basic grilled cheese: boring white bread and American cheese. That’s good for the kiddos but we are adults here and we deserve BETTER!

Craving a grilled cheese? Save it to Pin!

Jonathan and I are always looking to upgrade the classics. This recipe came purely out of being a little creative at our local Safeway. One way I upgraded to adulthood is by adding a lunch meat to my grilled cheese. And not just any old lunch meat but HillShire Farm Naturals: Black Forest Ham. I’m a huge fan of ham in my grilled cheese and with Hillshire’s lunch meat, it takes it to the next level.

Another way we upgraded this classic was by using a smoky sliced Gouda cheese and thick cut sourdough bread. You can easily change the cheese to anything that’s good at melting, Muenster, Provolone, Havarti, Swiss, etc. Choose your favor, as long as it isn’t sliced American cheese, unless your feeding the kiddos, of course!

Ingredients
  • 3-4 Slices HillShire Farm Naturals Lunch Meat {Black Forest Ham Used in Recipe}
  • 2 Slices Sourdough Bread
  • 2 Slices Gouda Cheese {or any melting cheese}
  • 2 Tablespoon Softened Butter
Instructions
  1. Begin by turning on a pan on medium heat and spraying it with cooking spray. I used a flat grill pan to get the grill marks but you can use any pan you have!
  2. Assemble your sandwich: Spread the butter on one side of the sourdough bread. Lay that flat on the pan, next add a layer of cheese slice. Next comes the HillShire Farm Naturals Lunch Meat, make a layer of ham. Top with another slice of cheese and butter the last slice of bread and put on top.3. Let the bread do it's magic, check on the mark and when it's slightly toasted, flip the sandwich careful using a spatula.
  3. Continue to toast the bread, make sure the cheese is melting inside. Once it's grilled to perfection, remove from heat and slice in half. Serve with your favorite tomato soup {I love a tomato and roasted red pepper blend!} or on it's own, either way ENJOY!
