Kindness Art Project + Freebie

Teaching

Kindness is such a powerful trait to teach our students. I had my students create and explain kindness through working together and giving definitions to the word Kindness and what it means to them. This art project is perfect for the month of February or any time of the year in your classroom.

I absolutely love teaching my students character traits, especially kindness! During the month of February, I usually pull out this project as it’s the perfect platform to continue to share kindness throughout our days. Plus, it’s my favorite month to teach, it’s the month I met my boyfriend Jonathan, we celebrate our anniversary this month, and lastly it’s a short teaching month (shh, I didn’t say that). But it truly is a great time to really think about the true meaning of love and friendship.

Kindness is in the air! Pin it to save!

This year our school has implemented a “Trait of the Month” to encourage positivity throughout our classrooms and school. All month we focus and have conversations about what it looks like to embody that trait. Each morning, in my classroom, my morning leader pulls a stick and asks for an example of this trait. I also added the trait to my Class Dojo behaviors so I can praise them when they are showing the trait.

Teachers are asked to pick 2-4 students who truly measure up to the month’s trait. At the end of each month we have a huge assembly, announce the handful of winners from each grade level and reward them for embodying these traits. By the end of the year, our goal is to have EVERY student recognized for their expressed character trait.

After we have chatted about the trait of the month for some time, I decide it’s an perfect time to come together and create an art project. This month’s trait is Kindness, the perfect trait for February in my eyes. To truly get their wheels turning on the many ways to show kindness, I had them create these art projects I did last February. The only thing I changed was the “Love is” to “Kindness is”.

They did a fabulous job capturing what Kindness is with these helpful hands. I love how every one is unique and really express their personalities. Wanna do this art project in your classroom? Snag my freebie footers for Kindness and Love.
