If you’re looking to hire a website designer for your small business, you’ll have a plethora of designers to choose from. So, how do you know which one to pick? I talk a lot about my experience and successes as a WordPress website designer, but I also want to talk about my journey to website design!
I hope by sharing a bit about my background, you get a feeling for the type of person that I am, and if I’m a good fit to work with you!
My journey into web design started in middle school. I loved dinking around with websites and writing blogs with Live Journal. (Can you guess my age now? 😆) I was also really into art and I took several art classes in high school and college. At this point, I never considered being a web designer, but I did consider pursuing an art career.
Eventually, it was time to settle on a career, and I chose education. I loved working with kids, and it seemed like a wise and stable career choice!
After graduation, I took a job teaching kindergarten! But I wasn’t committed to teaching one grade level forever. During my 5 years in the classroom, I did a bit of everything! I taught kindergarten, third, fourth, middle school, and ELL. I even got my master’s degree in education.
But my love of design and blogging never left me. In 2013, I posted my first blog post on Laugh Eat Learn – and that was the beginning of my next journey.
I didn’t become a WordPress website designer overnight. Actually, when I started the Laugh Eat Learn blog, I wasn’t considering website design at all. I just wanted to blog to share my experiences in the classroom and some fun recipes I was cooking at home.
But one day, I had someone reach out and say they loved my design style and asked if I designed websites for other people. I loved that idea, and I began putting my name out there.
I took on a small number of clients in the beginning, but as I did more website design, the more people reached out. Soon, I took a part-time teaching position at school and ran Laugh Eat Learn part-time for a year. Eventually, I was making double what my teaching position provided – so I left teaching to pursue website design full-time!
Because of my background in teaching, a lot of my original clients and the ones I work with today are teacher authors or former teachers. Many of them sell on TPT, but they also host workshops, work with schools, freelance, and more.
While my design skills are self-taught, that’s never held me back. 😉 I rarely say no to a client when they have an idea (although I’m honest if it’s my first time doing it), which has allowed me to grow and advance my skills throughout the years.
Now, 10+ years into WordPress website design, I’ve worked with over 968+ clients! I’ve designed their websites, helped them set up ecommerce shops, managed their WordPress sites, and helped knock out items with Done in a Day session.
If you think we’d be a good fit, then take a look at my services and inquire about working on a project together!
