When you work from home, it can be hard to create a space that’s practical and comfortable. In 2018, I decided to give my home office a makeover, and because I don’t half-ass anything, I started from scratch! 😂 I want to give you a peek into my home office setup because, if you’re anything like me, you’re curious about where other freelancers are getting their work done!

Like I mentioned, I created my home office setup from scratch, and that included building my desk. 💪🏻 I’d never done any type of woodworking before, so it was a challenging project, but I am SO happy with how it turned out. I went for an L-shaped desk, so I would have plenty of space for my three screens* (#designerproblems) and some other desk essentials, like my planner, a multitude of drinks, and my desk calendar*.
Naturally, when you work from home all day, you do a lot of sitting! Having a comfy place to work on my clients’ websites and hop on Zoom calls is essential. IYKYK. I invested in a cushy, ergonomic office chair*, and I have zero regrets.
Originally when I mapped out my office, I didn’t intend to have additional seating. But when I found an egg chair at Target, I knew it had to come home with me. 😆 I did a little redesigning, so I could fit it into my new layout. Cuba, my dog, loves hanging out in this spot.
If it’s not obvious by now, my brand color is teal. 🤪 One of the first steps in creating this home office setup was painting the walls teal and finding some complementary artwork. Then, like the plant girlie I am, I had to bring nature in! I found some cute pots* and filled them with plants that I could add to my desk (or, let’s face it, any surface available).
I also covered a window in my room with rainbow film*, and it legitimately brightens my day when the rainbows scatter across my desk. 😍 Washington can be gloomy, so I needed something to brighten up the space.
One of the last parts of my home office setup was creating a space for my husband’s collection and organizing my office items. I turned a closet in the office into a desk (that I built!) and a display area for my husband. We love Marvel in this house, so I displayed some of his Funko Pop! collection on acrylic shelves*.
I added a cube organization shelf for my books and a metal hanging folder to store paperwork. Probably the best organization feature, though, is my acrylic process tracker and yearly calendar. I can keep track of client projects and my availability right from my desk!
After a few years of working on my home office setup, it is officially done, and I couldn’t be happier! If my office tour inspired any ideas, you can shop my work-from-home office essentials on my Amazon storefront.
