When you started your business, you knew you needed a logo and brand colors. You probably spent a lot of time thinking about what font or shade of purple to use. But you might not have considered how – years later – the branding for your small business could be doing you a disservice. 😬 I’m sharing how you can improve your small business branding to attract the right people and stay relevant.
Unless you’re a total branding nerd like me (and proud of it 😉), then you might wonder why branding matters in the first place. Basically, your branding is what makes you recognizable, builds trust with your customers, and sets you apart from your competitors.
It’s when your small business branding isn’t doing those things that it’s time to make improvements. Let’s talk about changes you can make.
I know, sometimes you get tired of using the same old fonts and colors. But when you frequently mix up your fonts and messaging, you’re creating inconsistency.
👉🏻 What You Can Do: Create clear brand guidelines – and stick to them. (I put my brand guidelines on a brand board.) Consistently use the same colors, fonts, and messaging across all platforms. Use branded templates for emails, social media, and your website to keep everything uniform and recognizable.
Imagine where your business was two or three years ago. It’s probably changed a lot, right? But has the branding for your small business changed with it? 👀 If your branding looks the same as the day you launched your business, it might be time for a change.
👉🏻 What You Can Do: Refresh your brand as your business grows. Make sure that your current branding reflects the type of people you want to attract, and that it doesn’t look outdated. This could mean a complete branding overhaul, or making updates to colors, logos, or templates as your brand evolves.
It’s easy to get distracted (and play the comparison game) when you own a business. But when you model your branding to look like your competitors, all you do is blend in – instead of standing out. 🤷🏻♀️
👉🏻 What You Can Do: Be you! Think about what you and your brand represent. The branding for your small business should reflect your values and attract the attention of your ideal people. Put on your blinders and stop worrying about what everyone else looks like.
Moral of the story? Branding isn’t set in stone. The branding for your small business should grow, change, and evolve as you and your audience do. Each year, check in with your small business branding to make sure it still reflects you and the people you want to serve.
